August 1, 1936 — June 2, 2024

Marvin Hays Taylor, 87, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Brooks Chapel with George Hamontree officiating. Private interment will be in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.

Marvin was born on August 1, 1936 in Keiser, Arkansas to Marvin and Fannie (Ellison) Taylor. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1954 and attended Texas Tech University. He married Freda Ann O'Neill on December 22, 1958 in Abernathy and was deployed overseas in April for the next 18 months. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a language specialist.

Marvin worked for TXDOT for 35 years as Chief Accountant in Lubbock and after he retired, he and Freda traveled fulltime for the next twelve years, visiting every state in the U.S. except Hawaii. He and Freda immensely enjoyed volunteering at Palo Duro Canyon State Park as camp hosts and working in the Visitor Center, where Marvin was able to share his vast knowledge of the canyon with the many visitors there.
Marvin cherished his time serving as Scout Master for many years while Talton was in Boy Scouts, taking the boys to camp each year, the most memorable being the year he took 16 boys to camp at Tres Ritos by himself.

Marvin is preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Ulmer.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Freda Taylor; son, Talton Taylor and wife, Kim of Canyon; daughter, Tamera Estrada and husband, Edward of Edinburg, TX; three grandchildren, Dustin Taylor and wife, Kim of Rincon, GA, Aaron Taylor and wife, Lauren of Flower Mound, TX, and Jennifer Noble and husband, Nate of Amarillo; ten great grandchildren, Adain, Kadance, Kailin, Gavin, Oliver, Hudson, Finley, Joshua, Annie Mae, and Austin; and a brother, Phillip Taylor and wife, Sharon of Lubbock.

Because of Freda's dedication to the quilting ministry, the family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Quilting Ministry, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
