In 1956, Marlene and Jim moved from Park Rapids, Minnesota to Pampa, Texas. There Marlene worked in a factory sewing women's undergarments which were sold at department stores like JC Penny's and Sears. After moving to Canyon, Texas, Marlene worked at multiple retail stores including Fabrific and CR Anthonys, before retiring from Walmart in 1998.
When she wasn't working, you could find Marlene in the sewing room where she enjoyed working on different projects. Many of these projects won ribbons when entered in competitions.
