Mark Wallace Newell

Mark Wallace Newell, 66, of Canyon, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Brooks Chapel with Curtis House, senior pastor of Harvest Connexion Church, and Joshua Bullard, officiating.

Mark was born on February 24, 1960, to Don and LaVonne Newell in Guthrie Center, Iowa and grew up on the family farm located outside of Guthrie Center until he was 4 years old. The family moved to Ames, Iowa, where he completed his schooling. Mark participated in wrestling and football playing for the Ames High School Little Cyclones. He was a member of the Class of 1979.

In 1981, Mark lived briefly in Garden City, Kansas, where he worked for IBP in the meat packing industry. In 1985, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he did construction work, worked in the meat packing industry, and then worked for the Department of Agriculture. In 1992, Mark and his daughter, Monique, made the move to Canyon, Texas, where Mark worked for Hastings as an assistant manager of IT for 17 years. Later, Mark went to work for CSI as an IT Engineer. He worked for this company for 15 years.

He was a known protector and provider. There are many stories of his selfless acts. If you were family or friends of Mark Newell, you were taken care of. He was a devoted daddy to his daughter, Monique, and a grandpa that loved to spoil his grandchildren. The grandkids will have lots of memories of shopping, getting clothes for school and at Christmas; many Fourth of Julys spent in Grandpa and Kipy’s backyard, playing on the slip and slide; fun trips to Urban Air, Cinergy, and of course, the candy store in Canyon.

Mark and Kipy met and married later in life, in God’s time. Having finally found their soul mates, they experienced a marriage filled with love, kindness, happiness, adventures, and most of all, good memories.

Mark is survived by his wife, Kipy of Canyon; his daughter and son-in-law, Monique and Jeb Brotherton, of Amarillo; his mother, LaVonne Newell, of Ames, Iowa; and his sister, Roxanne Lushbaugh, of Phoenix, Arizona. Other family members include his father-in law, Steve Trowbridge of Petersburg; his sister and brother-in-law, Kim and David Vaughn of Petersburg; stepchildren, Stephen Alford of Des Moines, Iowa, Taryn and husband, Josh LaGrave of Petersburg, and Sam Alford of Lubbock; six grandchildren: Lane, Daci, Sally, and Lindley Brotherton of Amarillo, Ainsley LaGrave of Petersburg, and Evelyn Alford of Lockney.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Don Newell, his sister, Carolyn Newell, and his brother, Joel Newell.
