Marieta Gwyn

November 7, 1935 — February 12, 2025

Marieta Gwyn passed away on February 12, 2025 at the age of 89. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 February 15, at Brooks Chapel with David Bagwell officiating. Marieta was born on November 7, 1935 in Canyon, Texas, to Milton and Vee Sanders. She Graduated from Canyon High School in 1952, where she played basketball and later took to the volleyball court at West Texas State College, now WTAMU. On October 15, 1955 she married the love of her life, Roy Gwyn, and together they built a life filled with farming, ranching and raising two daughters. As a devoted homemaker and a proud farmer's wife, Marieta found joy in everything she did. Whether playing bridge or canasta with friends, volunteering as a leader in Oldham County 4-H, or coaching horse judging, she made a lasting impact in the community. She was there cheering on her kids at every basketball game and track meet, and when her grandchildren arrived, she embraced her role as a grandmother with the same enthusiasm and dedication. Marieta and Roy loved to travel the world together after his retirement, finding adventure in every corner where fishing was her favorite pastime. Marieta is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy Gwyn. She is survived by her daughters, Dywan Lane and husband Colin and Mareechia Pennington and husband Shad. Her cherished grandchildren, Trista and Shon. The family suggests memorials be made to Palo Duro Cemetery Fund, PO Box 82, Wildorado, Texas 79098.
