Marie Wallace Cooper, 93, of Canyon, died Monday, November 11, 2002. Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 14, 2002 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Donna Johnston, Associate Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Marie Wallace Cooper, born February 3, 1909 in Silverton, Texas. She moved to Canyon with her family in 1921. She was married to Leo Cooper July 23, 1932. Marie was recognized as an outstanding hair stylist in both the United States and abroad. She taught and demonstrated in Europe, Central America and Canada. Her appearances as a hair fashion authority have gained her international acclaim. She represented Texas in a Los Angeles pagent. She traveled to Europe, seven countries, Germany, Brussels, France England, Holland, Italy and Switzerland and gave many hair design demonstrations. She was State Style Director of Texas and was president of all affiliates for the Panhandle. She was a member of the Official Hair Fashion Committee. She owned and operated beauty salons in Canyon from 1930 to her retirement in 1967. Her sister, Wilma Smith, joined her and they lived at the Palo Dura Village. Marie was a member of the First Methodist church in Canyon, She served as president of the Murray Bible Class in the 1970's . She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
