Marguerite ‘Marny’ F. Heiselman Flood, 96, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Scott Raef as celebrant. A rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Brooks Chapel.
Marguerite, lovingly known by all as ‘Marny’, was born on October 15, 1929, in Deaf Smith County on the family farm to John Frank and Theresa Marie (Huckert) Heiselman. Growing up on the farm, she helped with all the chores of farm life, caring for chickens, cows, horses, and sometimes pigs, dogs, and barn cats. She also drove a tractor as a teen, helping in the fields.
Marny had a special love for dogs, as they seemed to be drawn to her, and she also loved horses, taking great joy in long horseback rides on Sonny around the countryside every chance she got. She also loved to play cards with family and friends.
Marny attended a small country school on her grandfather’s land called “The Heiselman School.” She eventually went to school in Hereford and ultimately graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1946 at the age of 16 where she was captain of the basketball team.
On February 7, 1953, Marny married Michael Joseph “Mickey” Flood at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega, Texas. He was in the Marine Corps at the time, and they moved to San Diego, CA. After the Marine Corps, they moved to El Paso, where Mickey was from, then to Bryan, Texas where he graduated from Texas A&M University. After graduation, they moved back to Amarillo where they raised their two daughters, and in 1975, moved to Albuquerque and remained there until 2021. She then moved to Palo Duro Retirement in Canyon, Texas until 2024 when she moved to Conner Court Assisted Living.
Marny was an amazing homemaker and was quite the handyman, able to fix or repair anything in the home. Her love for gardening led her to become a Master Gardener, she was an accomplished seamstress, tailoring Mickey’s suits, and among her many talents was re-upholstering their furniture. She also enjoyed art classes and accomplished many beautiful paintings, some of which she sold, but most she gave as gifts to family members. She was known for her exceptional cooking and baking, winning the blue ribbon for her cinnamon rolls and a white ribbon for her banana bread at the New Mexico State Fair, and sharing her baked goods with family and friends weekly.
When Marny moved back to Texas in 2021, she became a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon. She dearly loved her many friends and family and was very generous with her time and her God given gifts.
Marny was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, John Louis Heiselman.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia ‘Patty’ Mooney and husband, R. Shawn and Connie Lynn Schrum and husband, Roger Paul; grandchildren, Julie and Brian Berry, Kevin Shawn Mooney, Patricia and Francis Hallada, Joe Schrum, Kellie and Sam Tinsley, Amy Schrum and Dan Townsend, and Mike and Meagan Schrum; and sixteen great grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Caitlin, John, Courtney, and Brayden Berry, Blaise, Camile, and Patrick Hallada, Syrene, and Xavior Mooney, Melissa and Chris Tinsley, and Marcus, Madison, and Mary Schrum.
The family suggests memorials be to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, PO Box 59, Canyon, TX 79015.
