Margarett Mckinney

Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Margarett Benji Greer Reid McKinney was born on July 30, 1932 in Las Cruces, NM to Jeffrey and Jewell Lockridge Greer. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State College in 1954. She married Billy George Reid at Hill Chapel on the WT Campus on May 25, 1952. They were married for 38 years before he preceded her in death on September 9, 1990. She married Glenn McKinney on September 5, 1998, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2007. Margarett owned the Berry Patch in Grand Lake, Colorado for numerous years and was an active volunteer with the National Park Service in Rocky Mountain National Park. She was a long-time member of the University Church of Christ in Canyon and especially enjoyed helping people through the quilting ministry. She loved the Lord and served him gladly, graciously using her God-given talents by teaching and sharing her cooking, painting, quilting, sewing and homemaking skills. She also loved to travel and was a wonderful homemaker and fantastic cook. Margarett dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law, Diane Reid, two sisters, Gerri Staples and Betty Maddox, and a brother, Ben Greer. Survivors include her son, Jeff Reid, of Canyon; her daughter, Terri Nickson and husband, Mark, of Canyon; four grandchildren, DonMark Nickson and wife, Julianna, Joshua Reid and wife, Meghan, Gretchen Nickson, and Jeremy Reid and wife, Katy; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Emmerson Nickson and Emma and H.C. Reid; two sisters, Doris Watkins and Polly Scott; and one brother, Fred Greer. The family suggests memorials be to Mercy Project or India Missions, both in care of the University Church of Christ, 3400 Conner Drive, Canyon, Texas 79015.
