Margaret Read

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 in Canyon at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Bellah officiating. Private Burial at Dreamland Cemetery. Margaret was born to Joseph Clifford and Lucille Brown on December 8, 1929, in Hartley and graduated from Hartley High School. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor"s degree in Elementary Education in 1957. She married Paul E. Read on November 10, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. They resided in Colorado Springs, Hartley, Lubbock, and Canadian and have spent the last 45 years in Canyon. She taught elementary school for 33 years in Petersburg, Frenship, Canadian, and Canyon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Ruth in 1971; and her brother Joe Brown in 2005. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marilyn and husband Michael Roberts of Canyon; a son, Don Read of Canyon; a brother, Dick Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four grandchildren, Meagan Swatzell-Martinez of Phoenix, Mathew Swatzell of Amarillo, Shawn Swatzell of Canyon, and Whitney Roberts of London, England; and four great-grandchildren.
