The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Margaret was born on March 3, 1951 in Amarillo to Lewie and Reba (Meyers) Raef and was a 1969 graduate of Canyon High School. She married Don Riggs in 1978, and he preceded her in death in 2000. In 2006, she married Allen Harris. Margaret worked for Townsend Eye Center in Canyon for 10 years, and, following Don's passing and at the age of 51, she put herself through nursing school at Amarillo College, completing her associate's degree in nursing in 2004. For the next 16 years, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital and then Panhandle Surgical Hospital, where she advocated for and loved on her patients during every shift. As an outdoor enthusiast, Margaret loved bicycling, camping, hiking, and snow skiing. She also loved flowers, birds, and dogs, but doting on her sons and grandsons was her absolute passion. She was immensely dedicated to her volunteer work with 24 Hours in the Canyon, serving for the past 19 years. Margaret is also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Helen Raef Lanier, and four brothers, Louis Raef, Thomas Raef, Michael Raef, and Guy D. Raef. Survivors include her husband, Allen Harris of Amarillo; two sons, Joe Browder and wife, Erin of Bonney Lake, WA, and Ben Browder of Dallas; two grandsons, Max and Blake Browder; two brothers, Andy Raef (Edith) and Dr. Kevin Raef (Kathy); and four sisters, Barbara Hartman, Sylvia Artho, Suzy Hicks (Marion), and Mary Lyne (John), and many nieces and nephews. In Margaret's honor, the family suggests memorials be made online to 24 Hours in the Canyon (https://24hoursinthecanyon.org/donate) or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
