Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Happy's Memorial Chapel in Happy, Texas with Gary Morton, grandson, officiating. Mabel was born on April 18, 1914 in Canyon, Texas to James Joseph and Wilhemine Josephine Johnson Leavitt. She grew up west of Happy and attended school in Canyon. Mabel had six brothers, Clarence, Roy, Harold, Wilbur, Pete, and Alford, and one sister, Abbie. Mabel married Willie S. (Bill) Sims on August 12, 1931 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Bill and Mabel farmed and lived north and west of Happy for many years. She moved into Happy in 1977. They enjoyed fishing at Buffalo Lake and Lake Amisted near Zapata, Texas. Mabel was given the RSVP Outstanding award in 1984-85. Bill and Mabel were the parents of a daughter, Dorthy Mae Sims Morton and twin sons, Carl Wayne Sims and Carol Edward Sims. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1976, her mother in 1932, her father in 1965, her daughter, Dorthy, in 1986, her son, Carl, in 1994, son Carol in 1997, her sister Abbie, brothers, Clarence, Roy, Harold, Wilbur, Alford, and Pete. Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Wynnell Sims of Tulia, and Patricia Sims of Happy; grandchildren, Gary Morton and wife, Alice, of Anchorage, Alaska, Lary Morton and wife, Kim, of Safford, Arizona, LaRae Sims Scott and husband, Pat, of Canyon, Jerry Sims and wife, Patrice, of Happy, Jeff Sims of Happy, and Jay Sims and wife, Suzanne, of Shreveport, Louisiana; great grandchildren, Garrison Morton, Dustin and Luke Morton, Clay Scott, Wesley and Wyatt Sims, and Braden and Jace Sims; sisters-in-law, Mildred Leavitt of Canyon and Odessa Leavitt of Happy, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
