Loyd was born on November 18, 1940 to Clarence (C.J.) Leavitt and Myrtle (Farr) Leavitt in Canyon, Texas. He attended school in Happy, but his real education began at an early age on his father's farm. He spent his younger years working the fields, building his skill. While farming in the Tulia area, Loyd met the love of his life Clara Omega Leavitt.

Loyd and Omega were married on March 5, 1965. Together, they built their own farm and raised their family of 3 children. Loyd spent countless hours working the fields but found time to make memories. His favorite times were spent on the lake and camping. He loved to fish and water ski, taking his family any chance he could. Loyd was a proud supporter of the Nazareth Swifts and Swiftettes. He and Omega traveled across the state watching their children play ball. Whether it was football or basketball, Loyd was in the stands watching every play. As the years passed, his focus grew more to spending time at home with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could spend hours listening to them talk and laugh. He followed them religiously on the radio never missing a game. He was a proud Papaw, win, lose or draw.

Loyd was preceded in death by both parents, a sister Peggy White, and a grandson Randall J. Leavitt, Jr.
Those left behind, his wife of 55 years, Omega, his children, Randy & Lynn Leavitt, Darla Davis & Kerry Bunch, and Ricky Leavitt, his grandchildren, Emily Leavitt, Hannah Leavitt, Waylon Leavitt, Sadie (David) Rogriguez, Taylor (Zane) Chiantaretto, Harley Davis, Ben Bunch, Lillie Bunch, and 3 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
