Lowell Boozer

Canyon

Lowell Boozer, 81, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the First Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. Charlie Keys and Rev. Matt Wolfington officiating.

Lowell was born on December 1, 1944 in Littlefield to Zemry and Florence (Wellborn) Boozer. He grew up in Three Way, Texas and attended school there until 7th grade. His family then moved to Hale Center and ultimately to Bovina where he graduated high school and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Jones on May 1, 1964. He enjoyed working with the Bovina Chapter of the Jaycees. He farmed in Bovina for twenty years before moving to Canyon in 1986 and became the director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Canyon in 1989. For the next 22 years, Lowell left an indelible mark on the community as he began right away making improvements to the existing parks and planning, designing, and building new parks for the city. He was responsible for the design and construction of Hunsley Hills Park with its walking/jogging track, picnic shelters, pavilion, and playground as well as the lake at Southeast Park and the accompanying baseball complex, pavilion, and soccer fields. Additionally, he developed soccer fields and eight practice ball fields on Brown Road. This was all in addition to the multiple responsibilities of grounds kept at over 100 acres in the parks across the city, the city pool, and the eye catching entrance to the city that dons a 15 by 25 foot American flag, all a testament to his love of the outdoors and his commitment to improve the quality of life for the Canyon community.

Lowell was a visionary and engineer at heart as evidenced by his many contributions to the community and his ability to repair anything. He also loved golfing, bird hunting, especially pheasant and quail, fishing while spending cherished time at their lake house on Ute Lake, and restoring old pickups and cars. While all of these were hobbies he enjoyed, his greatest joy was keeping up with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, staying apprised of all activities and attending all events. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jaquetta Holcomb.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Kathy Boozer of the home; four children, Misti Black and husband, Mitch of Denver, CO, Lowell David Boozer and wife, Dawn of Krugerville, TX, Amy Franklin and husband, Jason of Austin, TX, and Lynn Boozer and wife, Kathileen of Lorena, TX; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Drilma Handley of Lubbock.
