Lou Ann Barnhart, 73, of Canyon passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the First Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. Matt Wolfington, pastor, officiating. Private interment will be in Crosbyton Cemetery, Crosbyton, Texas.
Lou Ann was born on December 6, 1951 in Crosbyton to Julian and Helen (Perry) Flournoy and was a 1969 graduate of Crosbyton High School. Three years later, she received her Bachelor of Education at Texas Tech University and met Bob Klemer. Upon graduation, they married and moved to Atlanta where he was in sales and she taught Jr. High. They then moved to New Orleans where Ryan was born and later to Lubbock where Tycen was born. Their final move was to Canyon. After Bob's death in 1982, Lou Ann chose to stay in Canyon and make it home for her and the boys.
On October 12, 1985, Lou Ann married John Barnhart after he spotted her during a Palm Sunday celebration. John immediately fell in love with her smile, and they enjoyed life together for the next almost 40 years. For the past 3 ½ years, John and Lou Ann worked closely together as partners to manage Dreamland Cemetery, a truly enjoyable time for them both.
Lou Ann was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church of Canyon, the Searchers Sunday School Class, and the University Women's Club. Through the years, she made lasting friendships and continued to stay in touch with many of them, including her dorm friends from Texas Tech who gathered regularly, her Lunch Bunch group who continued to meet once a month from the time their children were in school to the present, and her Jane King Small Group. She and John also enjoyed their time with the Jon Lair Supper Club. Lou Ann was 50 years into auto immune diseases, but that did not define who she was. She was a lady with a beautiful, genuine smile and a keen intellect.
Lou Ann was an avid reader and enjoyed researching family history. She was an accomplished pianist and was honored to be invited once to play with the Lubbock Symphony. She thoroughly enjoyed being around people and was always completely supportive of John and any interests he had. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren who lovingly called her 'Grammy Lou.' She will be forever remembered by family and friends for her genuineness, kind heart, and exceptionally sweet soul.
Lou Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her infant twin sister, Sue Jan, and her sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Ted Saffell.
