Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 20 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Lorene Olsen was born and spent her childhood in Decatur, Mississippi. Her parents were Brent and Grace Everett, and she had four brothers and one sister. She graduated from East Central Community College in Decatur. She was married to the late Kenneth Olsen in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1947. Lorene, Ken and their son Robert lived in many different cities on the US East Coast and West Coast, and in the Philippines while Ken served as an officer in the US Navy. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1963 they moved to Canyon, Ken became a professor at West Texas State University, and the family made Canyon their home. Lorene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon and active in the Sunday school program. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, serving for a time as Alumni President; an auxiliary volunteer for the Panhandle Plains Museum; a member of the women's division of the Canyon Chamber of Commerce, and supported many community activities in Canyon. She is survived by her son, Robert C. Olsen and his wife Sue of Houston, three grandchildren, Lerryne Wetegrove of Tucson Arizona, Christine Olsen of Houston, and Mark Olsen of Houston, and one great granddaughter Kenzie Wetegrove; a sister Wanda Truett of Pharr Texas, a brother Jerry Everett of Arlington Texas, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Canyon, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015, or to your favorite charity.
