Lorene Margaret Wilhelm Hartman, 92, of Umbarger, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with Father Alvin Tshuma officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Lorene was born to Albert and Hilda (Dirks) Wilhelm on April 5, 1932 in Nazareth, Texas. She married Carl B. Hartman on February 19, 1952 in Nazareth, and they lived in the Umbarger area for the remainder of their lives where they farmed and ranched. They were married for 60 years.
Lorene has been a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years where she served as secretary for seventeen years. She was also a member of St. Mary's Altar Society and Christian Mothers, the Parish Council, and the Palo Duro Hospital Auxiliary. Being a member of Aggie Moms gave her great pride.
Spending time with her family was one of Lorene's greatest joys, and she tried to take in as many of the grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities as possible. She especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays and anniversaries with the family. Her other interests included working with houseplants, playing the piano, crocheting, and reading historical novels.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, son, Duane Alan, brother, Don Wilhelm, sisters, Win Wagner and Alta Hartman, and a son-in-law, Gaylord Malecha.
Survivors include five children, Dennis Hartman of Amarillo, Marvin Hartman and wife, Lesann of Umbarger, Juanita Malecha of Canyon, Floyd Hartman and wife, Terrie of Canyon, and Galen Hartman of Houston; seven grandchildren, James and Jodi Hartman, Jessica Tudyk, Jonathan and Cheyanne Hartman, Chelsea and Micah Schulze, Megan and Caleb Hubbard, Karlynn and Anthony Hochstein, and Olivia and Ivan Chau; eighteen great grandchildren, Wyatt, Lexington, and Chisum Hartman, Renan and Calan, Edison, Baylor, and Rozlyn Hartman, Elizabeth and Madeleine Schulze, Gideon, Daphne, and Maggie Hubbard, Charlotte, Bennett, Raelynn, and Carlee Jo Hochstein, and Juliet Chau; and two sisters, Ruth Kuhler and husband, Marvin, and Rita Hartman and husband, Albert.
