Lois Mcmullen

December 31, 1969 — July 22, 2014

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Dr. Clay J. Brown and Rev. Don Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the home of Jo Hamil, 81 Hunsley Hills Blvd., Canyon, TX 79015. Lois Gladys McMullen was born during a snowstorm on March 29, 1918 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Joseph Austin and Vera Grace Crumley Fenter. Lois had many memories of her childhood growing up on a farm just southeast of Elk City including being surrounded by a large family and riding her horse, Prince, to school. On April 22, 1939, Lois married Gerald Walter McMullen. She was a secretary at Morrow Thomas Hardware and was a church secretary at Westminster Presbyterian and First Presbyterian of Tulia, where she also served as an elder. She will be remembered for her inquisitive mind, her love of learning, and her indomitable spirit. She found strength in the words of St. Francis, loved pansies and butterflies, was a talented china painter, loved to read, crochet and do needlework, and cultivate her many gardens. Her family and her faith were dearest to her heart. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, special friend, Don Cates, mother, Vera, father, Joseph Austin, and two brothers, George and Joe Fenter. The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice for their incredible care and compassion. Survivors include her daughters, Jo Hamil and Carole Thorn, both of Canyon; grandchildren, Chris Wright and wife, Jana, of Canyon, Robin Martens and husband, Lonnie Bays, of Grand Prairie, Joel Wright and wife, Stacy, of Canyon, Kelly Bellar and husband, Rodney, of Allen, and Patrick Thorn, of Austin. Lois was also 'Mimi' to thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a special family friend, Chuck Speed. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Canyon Public Library, 1501 3rd Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or to Westminster Presbyterian Church 2525 Wimberly, Amarillo, TX 79109.
