Lloyd Q. Johnson, 75, of Canyon, died Monday, February 3, 2003 in Canyon. Memorial Services will be at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 7, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Clark Williams, pastor, Susan C. Meredith and Pastor Michael J. Decker officiating. Mr. Johnson was born on November 24, 1927 at Wheeler, Texas to Orville and Mary Hubbard Johnson. He received his Bachelors and Masters degree from West Texas State College from 1945 to 1949 and served for a short time in Naval Reserve at W.T.S.C. He taught and coached at Canyon High School from 1949 to 1951 and then taught and coached at Stephen F. Austin in Amarillo from 1951 to 1961. For five summers he was a brakeman on the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1961 he moved to Farmington where he coached and taught until his retirement in 1988. During this time he was on the Legislative Committee for the National Education Association and was President of the Goat Association. He returned to Canyon in 1990 and married Betty Brown Phillips on March 8, 1991 in Albuquerque, NM. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon , Crusaders Sunday School Class, and a member of the Canyon Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and numerous family and friends that loved him. The family suggests memorials be to the Bereavement Fund at First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue Canyon, TX 79015.
