Linda Rowland Stone, 79, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026. Memorial services will be at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Brooks Chapel with Shane Nease, pastor of Living Water Christian Fellowship, officiating.
Linda was born on August 26, 1946 to Clois and Dorothy Cleo (Skipworth) Rowland and grew up in Childress, Texas. She graduated from Childress High School in 1963 and attended West Texas State University (now WTAMU). She married Phillip Ray Stone, and he preceded her in death in 2004. A bit later, she met Peter Kidd and they were inseparable partners in life and creative work for the next 15 years. He also preceded her in death.
Linda lived in Canyon for the last 22 years, moving from Amarillo where she attended Westcliff Bible Church while raising her children. Her greatest passion was writing, and she took great joy in teaching creative writing. Beyond her own work as an author, she served as an editor and crafted beautiful poetry. Over the years, her family recalls her dedication as a committed political advocate and activist. She devoted her life to helping those in need. Above all, she cherished her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her ‘Bow.’
Linda is also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Jimmie Earl, Bobby Wayne, and Roy Henderson Rowland.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Stacy Tucker, Brec Stone, and Sarah Stone and husband, Guyon Prince; eight grandchildren, Payton Stone, Justin Tucker, Alexis Stone, Preston Stone, Grey Tucker, Inigo Baker, Addison Tucker, and Q Prince; two great grandchildren, Avery Tucker and Zoey Tucker; stepchildren, Sophia Kidd, Alexander Kidd, Matt Kidd, and Ella Helstedt; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her special friend to the end, Duffy, her much loved puppy.
