Funeral services for Leoda King Shaw, 70, will be held at 10:00 on Friday morning, July 22, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Canyon. Pastor Bobby File of Evangelical Fellowship Church of Amarillo will be officiating, with Art Baker of Amarillo assisting. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery with arrangements by Brooks Funeral Directors. Leoda was born May 28, 1941 in Turkey, Texas to Otis King and Ella Mae Fowler. Her family moved to Hereford, Texas in 1943 where she grew up and attended school. She married Doyle Shaw on August 11, 1956 and they"ve been residents of the Amarillo/Canyon area for approximately 50 years. Leoda and Doyle have been the owners of Rockin R Self Storage in Canyon for the past 16 years. Leoda was a born again Christian who loved the Lord, her family and friends with all her heart. She had a gift for hospitality and enjoyed hosting huge family gatherings at her home. She became a full time caregiver to her husband after his stroke in August 2000, but she still found ways to stay connected with people. Leoda joined The Red Hat Society, hosted Care Groups from her church in her home and remained the active owner/operator of her storage business. Leoda was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Doyle Shaw, daughter Vickie Genn and husband O"dell of Canyon, son Lonnie Shaw and wife Tricia of Canyon and daughter Kelli Whiting and husband Ryan of Katy, Texas. Brothers: Doyle King and wife Patsy of Hereford, Dorven King and wife Phyllis of Portales, NM, Jerry King of Amarillo, Donnie King and wife Inez of Canyon and Orvell King and wife Brenda of Amarillo. Sister: Patsy Biles and husband Eddie of Bowie, Texas. Nine Grandchildren: Mendy Hetzler, Jennifer Ethridge, Jason Genn, Brandon Shaw, Brittni Olguin, Brady Shaw, Bryson Shaw, Grace Whiting and Grant Whiting. Three Great Granddaughters: Abrie Olguin, Madilyn Olguin and Ada Genn. We would like to thank Dr. Steven Waguespack and the team of doctors who treated Leoda at MD Anderson in Houston. Also, our sincere gratitude goes to Dr. Dan Jenkins and his staff at BSA Hospice for their tender loving care of our mother. We were blessed by your compassion.
