Rev. Lawrence Daniel Thompson, 74, of Canyon, formerly of Clovis, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Jubilee Apostolic Church in Amarillo with Rev Steve Carrington and Rev. Larry Ellis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 P.M. on Monday at North Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Lawrence was born on December 14, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma to N. W. and Georgia (Creason) Thompson. He met Levinie Cabler in her hometown of Memphis and they were married there on October 17, 1970. They were married for 54 years and would have been 55 next month. He was a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church for more than 55 years. He had a passion for home missions and for the next 53 years, he and Levinie were dedicated to church planting. He was instrumental in starting churches in numerous towns and held pastorates in Clarendon, Stephenville, Morgan, Friona, Shamrock, Gallup, NM, and spent his last 21 years of pastoring in Clovis, NM. His lifetime motto was "One more church!" He also served as a member of the Texico District Board for 15 years. They moved to Canyon upon his retirement in September of 2023. He was an avid coin collector and he had a passion for writing and authored two books and a life diary. He also proudly served as the editor of the Texico Harvester, the official publication of the Texico District for many years. He also cherished spending time with his family.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Opal Bailey, Norman Thompson, and Norma Alexander.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Levinie Thompson, of the home; two sons, Lawrence Creason Thompson and wife, Laura of Portales, NM and Dan Thompson and wife, Dana of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Haley Pritchett and husband, Mason, Becca Smith, and Logan Disney; four siblings, Georgia Edney of Palestine, TX, Linda Lax of Shamrock, David Thompson of Shamrock, and Bill Thompson and wife, Anita of Childress; as well as many extended family and spiritual family that he loved dearly.
