Lawrence “Larry” Paul Hartman was called home on Wednesday, July 22 in Canyon, TX. A Rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger, Texas, with Deacon Gabe Rivas officiating.
Larry was born on January 15, 1961 in Canyon, TX. He graduated from Canyon High School and attended DeVry Institute technical school in Dallas, TX. Larry was employed at Irwin Greenhouse and then at Dolle’s Lawn and Supply, both in Canyon. He lived in the Umbarger area through High School and then moved to the Amarillo and Canyon areas.
Growing up, Larry loved science and math. He received a chemistry set for his 6th birthday and a telescope for his 8th or 9th birthday. At age 12, he asked his dad for a new set of encyclopedias; when asked why, he explained that he had read them all. Larry also loved nature and farm life. He participated in the Canyon 4-H Club, where he raised a lamb to show at the fair.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Paul Hartman; niece Alyssia Earl; grandparents Lewie and Reba Raef, Carl and Laura Miller Hartman and Elizabeth Irlbeck Hartman, and several aunts and uncles.
Larry is survived by his mother Barbara Ann Raef Hartman; his siblings, Kenneth Hartman (Theresa) & family, Donna Booker (Billy) & family, Linda Hegwood & family, Debra Friedberg (Jay), Karen Powell (Kent) & family, and David Hartman (Sara).
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Larry’s care teams at BSA Hospice of the Southwest and Texas Panhandle Centers Adult Behavioral Health. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice or to the National Institute of Mental Health, Gift Fund, 6001 Executive Blvd, Room 7149, MCS 9655, Bethesda, MD 20892-9655.
