Services will be at 2:00 Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Happy with Rev. Paul McQuerry, pastor, and Rev. Tom Stribling, pastor of United Methodist Church of Happy, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Happy's Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be in Happy's Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery, Happy, Texas. Larry Neil Tackitt was born on October 31, 1929 in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to George and Winnie Bailey Tackitt. He graduated from Panhandle High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education from Texas Tech. After graduating from Tech in 1953 he served in the Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning, he received his Masters degree in Agriculture Education from Tech. He married Camma Lou Walker on March 19, 1949 in Panhandle. He taught Vocational Ag in Happy for two years. His first year there was the first time Happy had ever won state in Livestock Judging in Houston. He encouraged his students to do their best and will be remembered for his leadership and impact on his students. He was also manager of Taylor-Evans in Happy. Larry established and managed Bilt Rite Farms for 40 years, where he was a successful Hampshire, Duroc, and Yorkshire producer. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Pork Producers Association in 2006. His legacy will live on through the many young people he mentored throughout his life. He and Camma Lou were foster care providers for 13 years through Texas Panhandle Centers in Amarillo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Happy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Tackitt. Survivors include his wife, Camma Lou Tackitt, of the home; three sons, Stuart Tackitt and wife, Lela, of Lubbock, Lonnie Tackitt and wife, Tracy, of Marble Falls, and Mark Tackitt and wife, Donna, of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail Tackitt, Taylor and Kelsie Tackitt, and Matthew, Stephen, and Sarah Tackitt; a sister, Betty Jo Graber and husband, Bud, of Weatherford, TX; sister-in-law, Lillie Belle Howe, of San Antonio; a nephew, Terry Tackitt, of San Antonio; and he was a foster care provider for three special people, Larry Bragg, Gary Carr, and Robert Lovato.
