Kyla Kaye Nelson was greeted by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the age of 67. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her friends and family. Kyla was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and nurse.
Born on December 15, 1956, in Belen, New Mexico to Beverly and Marvin Jones. Kyla graduated High School from Clovis, New Mexico. She dedicated her life to her family, raising her four children with unwavering love and devotion. Her heart was her home, and nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her children, Aubrey, Stacie, Marla, and Daniel. She also adored her eight grandchildren and her precious great-grandson, making each one feel deeply cherished.
Taking her family on yearly vacations was the light of her life. From the beach to the mountains, many memories were made that her family will cherish forever. Kyla spent many hours sitting in bleachers, at football and basketball games. She may have yelled at a few referees. Kyla was her kid's and grandkid's biggest fan.
Kyla had a passion for nursing, which became a central part of her life for 34 years. She worked primarily in labor and delivery, where she found immense joy and purpose. Over the decades, she played a role in bringing hundreds, if not thousands, of babies into the world. Her compassion and care for both mothers and newborns left an indelible mark on the many lives she touched. Nursing was not just a profession for her—it was her calling.
Kyla is survived by her children, son Aubrey Nelson and wife Kelisa of Liberty Hill, Texas, daughter Stacie Barnett and husband Chad, of Happy, Texas, daughter Marla Nelson of Canyon, Texas, and son Daniel Nelson and wife Lindsey of Olton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Lacie Berry and husband Layton, of Happy, Texas, Jakob Nelson and Brigham Nelson both of Liberty Hill, Texas, Wyatt Nelson, Emmitt Nelson, Hannah Nelson and Karoline Nelson, all of Olton, Texas; one great-grandson, Ty Berry of Happy. Kyla is survived by her sister, Marilyn Swope of Bastrop, Texas and brother, Mike Jones of Canyon, Texas. Kyla also was an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Kyla is preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Kathryn Nelson, her mother, Beverly Hawthorn, stepfather, Ed Hawthorn, and father, Marvin Jones.
Her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, as well as all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to shine in the lives she nurtured and the many families she supported through her work.
The family will receive guests on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 1702 5th Avenue, Canyon, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Happy, Texas at 10:00 am followed by graveside service at the Happy Cemetery.
