Kerry Wayne Owen, 70, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Carry Doyle King officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Brooks Chapel.
Kerry was born on September 1, 1956, in Canyon to Charles and Jessie (Neeley) Owen and was a member of the Canyon High School class of 1974. Canyon has always been his home, and he dedicated his life to his family and his work. Kerry met the love of his life, Jo Lynn Fite, in Amarillo in 1973, and they were married on March 4, 1974, sharing 52 ½ amazing years, three sons, and a daughter.
Kerry worked for his dad driving and running trucks for Charles Owen Trucking. In 1988, he bought his first truck and began Kerry Owen Trucking with his three young sons by his side and several employees, spanning the next 30 years. In 2019, his health forced him to retire, and he spent the next seven years enjoying coffee and playing in a solitaire battle with his sweet Mom, Jessie. His children and grandchildren filled his life with so much more. He took great pride in working with his rose bushes and keeping his lawn green in the hot Texas summers. He loved fishing trips with anyone that would go with him and especially enjoyed stopping at a casino or two. He traveled with Jo Lynn as much as they could and with his family when possible. He became very attached to his four-legged friend and companion, his Dachshund, Roxie.
Kerry is preceded in death by his father, Charles Owen, sister, Kathy Mooney, in-laws, Billy Joe and Carmelita Fite, and sister-in-law, Debbie Fite.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jo Lynn; three sons, Kerry Joe Owen and Angie, Kevin Owen, and Kris Owen and wife, Lauree, all of Canyon; daughter, Melissa Frisk and Jeromie Edwards of Amarillo; eleven wonderful grandchildren, Alicia Leith and husband, Brandon, Jaci Soliz and husband, Manual, Allison Owen and William Underwood, Halee Neill and husband, Jake, Kamy Owen, Kinslee Owen, Kaden Frisk, Alex Frisk, Everlie Edwards, Khloe Owen, and Liam Edwards four great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Zaden, and Lucca Soliz, and Kambra Leith; his mother, Jessie Owen; two brothers, Jimmy Owen of Canyon and Robbie Owen and wife, Kandy of Oklahoma; two sisters, Kay Weiss and Charlene Ritchie of Canyon; sister-in-law, Marla Fite of Mansfield; and brother-in-law, DeWayne Fite of Amarillo.
