Katy Byrd

December 31, 1969 — September 7, 2012

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 21, 2012 at her home church, the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. Interment was at Dreamland Cemetery. Katy Jean Byrd was born on January 5, 1923 in Canyon to James Clayton Black and his wife, Alice Caraway. She was the granddaughter of Dr. Mrs. J. M. Black, early pioneers of Randall County. She married Roy Neal Byrd, Jr. on October 10, 1941. Katy and Roy were highschool sweethearts. Katy was a loving mother of four sons and one daughter, Roy Neal, John, George, Jeffrey, and Rebecca Kay. She was a loving and faithful wife to her husband, Rev. Byrd as they served churches in Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas. Katy had high regard for family, for education, achievement and hard work. She liked to see a job well done. She found it rewarding later in life to show her miniature schnauzers. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
