Joyce "Joy" Wheat

Joyce "Joy" Ella Wheat, 76, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Brooks Chapel with Shane Nease, pastor of Living Water Christian Fellowship, officiating.

Joyce "Joy" Ella Wheat was born on November 6, 1943 to Buster and Violet Ruth Ziegler Thomas. She received her Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Education and minored in Psychology at West Texas A&M University, and taught in Floydada, Silverton, and Canyon. She was also a Health Inspector for the Texas Department of Health for over 20 years and a real estate broker. Joy played in a bluegrass band called I-30 Express.

Joy married Jodie Wheat on May 27, 1978 in Tulia, Texas.

She loved all her family, especially her husband, Jodie.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Violet Thomas and her brothers, Allen and Tony Thomas.

Survivors include her husband, Jodie Wheat; son, James Mercer and wife, Gretchen; daughter, Lori O'Toole; son, Mark Wheat and wife, Lynda; daughter, Lesa Wheat; seven grandchildren, Brenden Mercer and wife, Kim, Jason Mercer and wife, Erica, Andrea High and husband, Travis, Tamara Johnstone and Nick Bruggner, Kelly O'Toole and wife, Megan, Leslie Wheat and James Williams; ten great grandchildren, Jordyn Kirby, Bailey Wilson, Tyson and Jaxon Johnstone, Dalton, Lynlea and Lainey O'Toole, Archer and Zander High and Aerilynn Farris.
