Joy Smith

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Hart Cemetery in Hart, Texas. Joy Cluck Smith was born on February 19, 1926 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Roy and Retta Farris Cluck. She graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1943 and then from Draughns Business School in Plainview. She then earned a degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech and returned to Dimmitt to work for the ASC office. She married Rodney Smith in 1950 in Hart where they farmed and ranched. They later moved west of Happy and farmed there for many years. Joy loved the farm, loved gardening and was an excellent cook. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Jeff Smith, her parents, and a brother, Jimmy Cluck. Survivors include two sons, Randall Smith and wife, Tonya, of Happy and Ron Smith, and friend, Patricia, of Canyon; daughter-in-law, Leta Smith, of Canyon; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Billie Cluck, of Dimmitt; and two brothers, R. J. Cluck and Jerry Cluck.
