Joy Lou Case, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 23rd at her home in Canyon, Texas at age 68. Joy was a wonderful woman who was loved by all. She retired from West Texas A&M University where she worked in the maintenance department. In 2001 she received the school"s highest award, the Clarence E. Thompson Staff Excellence Award. Joy also worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Clemens Unit in Amarillo as a prison guard. She gained the respect of prisoners, who often drew pictures and created art to give her as gifts. They did this because she respected them as a human, and treated them as such despite their circumstances. She felt personally responsible to help each and every inmate she came across in the best way she could. After retirement, Joy cherished spending time with friends and family, and feeding and watching wild birds in her backyard. She would spend every morning with a cup of coffee and the birds, which brought peace to her life. Joy supported and took care of her husband, son, and every other family member with great pleasure because that is what she loved to do. Joy respected God, life and country. She knew no strangers and wished no harm upon anyone. She will be greatly missed. Joy is survived by her husband, David (Canyon), her son, Cody (Olathe, KS), her step daughter, Melanie Case (Frisco), two sisters, Lola (Amarillo) and Ina (Amarillo), brother, Jim (Dumas), and 10 grandchildren.
