Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen and Rev. Gene Jones officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday at Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery in Muleshoe. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery in Muleshoe, Texas Johnny (J.R.) Henry was born on September 24, 1932 in Eason, OK to Clyde and Nellie Mae Bostick Henry. He graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1950 and from Kilgore Jr. College in 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was honorably discharged and met his wife at the VA Hospital in Memphis, TN. They married on March 5, 1954. Johnny was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School. He was an avid Texas historical enthusiast and was a collector of Texas memorabilia. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Hayden, and three brothers, Earl, Doyle, and Eugene Henry. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; his son, Johnny Henry, Jr., of Katy; his daughter, Gail Henry, of Burleson; a sister, Edith Goss, of Double Oak, TX; a brother, Kenneth Henry, of Muleshoe; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Texas Paralyzed Veterans Associatiton Scholarship % WTAMU Foundation, PO Box 60766, Canyon, Texas 79016-0001.
