John Hamm

April 12, 1931 — July 13, 2024

John Hamm, 93, of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor of First Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating.

John was born on April 12, 1931 in Red Oak, Texas to Willie Jones and Ella Jean (Coleman) Hamm. He was a 1949 graduate of Red Oak High School and entered the military that same year, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Mary Elizabeth Phillips on October 4, 1952 in Clarksville, Texas, and they were happily married for 72 years. John worked as a machinist for Recognition Equipment in Irving for 25 years, and upon retirement, they moved to Lakeside Village. They enjoyed their years there and were members of Kopperl United Methodist Church. John thoroughly enjoyed raising some cattle and Boer goats while at 'the ranch.' Hunting, fishing, and traveling were also among his favorite pastimes through the years.

In 2016, John and Mary moved to Canyon and became members of the First Methodist Church of Canyon.
John is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Coleman, Robert, and Bill Hamm, and sister, Mary Lee McKee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hamm, of Canyon; son, Audie W. Hamm of Canyon; daughter, Sharon D. Oliver of Huntsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Hamm, Ashley Hamm, Wesley Bender, and Clint Schmal; ten great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
