John Barrett

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. John Richard 'Dick' Barrett, Jr. was born on September 19, 1929 in Amarillo to John Richard and Ollie May Anderson Barrett, Sr. He was raised in Happy and moved to Canyon in 1937. He was a graduate of Canyon High School. Dick married Suzanne Stephenson on September 24, 1950, and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2005. He worked as manager of Crowe-Gulde in the early 1960's and then for Panhandle Concrete in Hereford for many years. He was also a lifelong area farmer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the past in Boy Scout leadership. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Sue Barrett in 2007 and two sisters, Juanita Zigler and Henrietta Greenfield. Survivors include three sons, John E. Barrett and wife, Loretta of Moore, OK, Corky Barrett and wife, Deborah of Canyon, and Rodney Barrett and wife, Debbie of Noble, OK; twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to VFW Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 9 at Brooks Chapel.
