Joe Godfrey, 80, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon with Father Shane Wieck, Celebrant, and Father Scott Raef, Concelebrant, officiating. A rosary will be held at Brooks Chapel at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, December 21, 2020 with Deacon Gave Rivas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Joe was born on September 25, 1940 in Tulsa, OK to Joseph James and Mildred (Shover) Godfrey, Sr. He graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in Tulsa and later married Euyvonne Vann on August 19, 1961.
Joe worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas which became ARCO and retired after 34 years. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and various Lions Clubs. He was a loyal fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys, and an avid golfer, playing in numerous tournaments and spending many hours at the Canyon Country Club playing with his 'Breakfast Bunch.'
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Tom York. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Yvonne Godfrey of Canyon; son, Jerome Godfrey and wife, Debbie of Canyon; daughter, Angie Lindsey and husband, Harvey of Milton, FL; five grandchildren, Ashley and Ian Smith, Maegan and Brennan Perry, and Dillon, Cody, and Emma Lindsey; sister-in-law, Patricia York; nephew, Tim and Gloria York; niece, Jill and Robert Nussbaum; and two great nephews, Christian York and Collin Nussbaum.
The family suggests memorials be to Kindred Hospice, 3232 Hobbs Rd. A, Amarillo, TX 79109, St. Ann's Catholic Church, PO Box 59, Canyon, TX 79015, or to a favorite charity in Joe's name.
