Jody Magness, 86, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Happy Cemetery with Bob Miller, pastor of Crossroads Country Church in Amarillo, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Jody was born on December 17, 1937 in Tulia, Texas to Herschel Clarence 'Pete' and Maudie (Briley) McCarley. She graduated from Happy High School in 1956 and married Phil D. Magness on April 19, 1956 in Tucumcari, NM. They were married for 58 years before he preceded her in death on June 9, 2014.

Upon graduation, Jody began working at the First National Bank of Canyon, where she remained for 29 years. She then became an agent for State Farm and diligently served the people of Canyon and the surrounding area for 36 years, retiring on June 30, 2022.

Jody poured her life into her family, always wanting to take care of everyone. They were of utmost importance to her. Second only to her family was her love for the Canyon Lady Eagles basketball teams. Her support spanned many years, and the girls will lovingly remember her for her love and encouragement.

Along with her husband, Jody is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, W.H. 'Bill' McCarley, A.J. McCarley, Buck McCarley, Dub McCarley, R.B. McCarley, and Jerry McCarley, four sisters, Aleene McCarley, Betty Davis, Nellie White, and Mary White, and an adopted brother, Leo Carlson.

Survivors include her daughter, Aletha Magness; fourteen nieces and nephews that she also loved dearly, Debbie McDonald, Jay McCarley, Becky McCarley, Lon Davis, Joy Kay Mason, Kathy Jan Clark, Lanecha Pleasant, Larry White, Colette Chitty, Dee Phipps, Shann Newsome, Bill McCarley, Debbie Bell, and Donna Collins; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews that were so special to her.

The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125 or to the Happy Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 216, Happy, TX 79042.
