JoAnne Davidchik, 93, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor of First Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Brooks Chapel. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 2, 2024 in Van Alstyne Cemetery in Van Alstyne, Texas.
JoAnne was born on April 14, 1931 in Van Alstyne to Guarder B. and Myrtis (Mitchell) Brown. She graduated from Van Alstyne High School and received her Bachelor of Education from Texas A&M Commerce in East Texas. She then taught for five years in Sherman. She married David Davidchik in Van Alstyne on June 8, 1954, and they moved to Canyon in 1966 where they worked for the Sandra Corporation, managing the Gibson store in Canyon and working in real estate. She received her Master's Degree in Special Education from West Texas State University (Now WTAMU) and had a passion for working with mentally challenged children.
JoAnne was a long-time member of First Methodist Church of Canyon and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. She was also active in the Methodist Women's Circle and cherished her mission trips to Guatemala, China, Russia, and Zimbabwe. She had a heart for feeding the homeless and supporting City Church.
JoAnne and was an excellent duplicate player in her Bridge club, an avid reader, and will be remembered for her graceful and beautiful entertaining. Her daughters will remember the many snow skiing trips to Red River while growing up, where she lovingly made sandwiches to avoid having to buy meals from the lodge. She also enjoyed fishing and delighted in taking her grandchildren along on guided trips to make sure they caught fish.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, David Davidchik, on September 12, 2010 and her daughter, Davolyn Davidchik, on January 4, 2018.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie Cooke and husband, Jay of Van Alstyne and Keri Beth Cleavinger of Canyon; five grandchildren, Chandler Walters, Christin Porter, Captain Chase Cooke, and Colt and Jake Cleavinger; and her sister, Sandra Watkins of Dallas.
The family suggests memorials be to the First Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
