Joan Loraine McCasland, 80, of Canyon passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020. Private services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Brooks Chapel with burial following at Dreamland Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
Joan was born on January 7, 1940 in Cherokee, Oklahoma to A.R. and Louise Fees Jacob. She graduated from Stillwater High School in 1958 and received a BS degree in Home Economics Education from Oklahoma University in 1962. She taught Home Economics in Alva High School.
Joan married Bob McCasland in Hobart, Oklahoma on June 22, 1963. They began farming and raising their family on a farm southwest of Canyon in the Jowell Community. Joan was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, a Jowell 4-H leader, and an elder and deacon in the First Presbyterian Church.
Joan was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kelly Ann McCasland. Survivors include her husband, Bob McCasland; four daughters, Kaye Gilliland and husband, Mark of Canyon, Carol Roller and husband, Jeff of Amarillo, Karen Mediavilla and husband, Rudy of Amarillo; and Keri Jane Churchill and husband, Ryan of Carl Junction, MO; eleven grandchildren, Travis and wife, Lisa Gilliland, Elizabeth, Megan and Sarah Gilliland, Josh and Jenna Roller, Elena, Anika and Eric Mediavilla, and Lydia and Julia Churchill; sisters, Jane Hildebrandt and husband, Paul of Fredrick, MD and Joyce Johnson and husband, Bud of Greeley, CO.
The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Children's Home, 3400 Bowie St., Amarillo, TX 79109 or Word at Work, 1400 Wolflin Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79109.
