Joan Conner

December 31, 1969 — August 16, 2012

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Brooks Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. A Christian sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Joan Byars Conner was born on May 28, 1930. She graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas Teachers College, where she was a charter member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She received her Masters degree in 1975 and taught in Amarillo, Liberty Missouri, Northwest ISD, and Denton County, and retiring in 1993. She returned to Canyon in 1995 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Joan married Edwin Wayne Conner on February 26, 1949. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2003. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Shirley White and Dorothy Byars. As we celebrate her life and mourn her passing, her latest great grandson, Jackson Byars Conner, was born yesterday, on the day of her parting. The family would like to thank the staff of Hudson House and Odyssey Hospice for their attention and support. Survivors include two sons, Lon Ed Conner and wife, Beverly, of Amarillo, and Guy Conner; a sister, Billie Erwin and husband, Harold, of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Josh Conner, of Woodbine, MD, Micah Burnett, of Amarillo, Wade Conner, of Lantana, TX, Christopher Conner and Cameron Conner, both of Dalhart; and eight great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be to Dreamland Cemetery, PO Box 38, Canyon, TX 79015 or the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
