Joan Blake, 87, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo with Pastor Ricky Black, Associate Pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Joan was born on June 8, 1933 in Doniphan, Nebraska to Chris and Edith (Horst) Happold. She graduated from Grand Island High School in Grand Island, NB in 1950. She then moved to Kansas City to work for TWA and met her future husband, Jim Blake. They were married in Oklahoma City on September 12, 1958. They moved to Canyon in 1960 to raise their children and were famously known for owning the Spudnut Shop, later becoming Blake's Donuts. Joan also worked for WTSU, retiring after 30 years.

Joan was a devout Lutheran. She received her Baptism on September 10, 1933 at St. Paul Rural Lutheran Church in Nebraska and received her Confirmation on March 30, 1947 at Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo and was very active throughout the Panhandle region, including Walther League Sponsor, avid supporter of Bethesda Good Samaritan Home, Trinity's Day Guild, and she held many church offices. Joan also enjoyed playing Bridge, flower arranging, and loved cooking.

As the last surviving member of her family, Joan was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and her husband, Jim Blake. Survivors include her son, David Blake; her daughter, Susan Nebhut; two grandchildren, Hanna Nebhut and Jessica Keevan and husband, Aaron; and three great grandchildren, Marlee, Conner, and Mady Keevan. She was also survived by two sisters-in-law, El Burke and Sylvia Happold; many nieces and nephews; and Joan was proud to be Godmother to four boys, Doug, Greg, Phillip, and Matt.

The family would like to express their thanks to the Craig Assisted Living Staff, especially Marsha, and for the care she received later at the group home by Trish.
