Amarillo Blvd., Amarillo, 79106 with Lyndal Waldrip, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. Graveside service will follow at noon at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Alumni Cemetery.
Jimmy was born on February 24, 1936 in Plainview to Albert J. and Beta Mae (Crawford) Lill. He graduated from Amarillo High School and played baseball at Amarillo College. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Nichols, on November 24, 1955, in Amarillo. They had two children, Becky and Doug, and were married for 62 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on March 19, 2018.
Jimmy joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and was stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen. He then joined the Army Reserves, serving for a total of six years.
Although Jimmy was a general contractor and home builder for many years, he really was a jack-of-all-trades. There was very little he couldn't do or build. Later in life, he traveled the country as an insurance adjuster. He and daughter Becky also owned Curly Q Tators for over 25 years, spending every September at the Amarillo Tri State Fair. It was the red trailer that everyone loved.
Jimmy was a long-time member of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo where he and Barbara taught Sunday School for many years. He was an avid golfer and was respected among his fellow golfers. He also enjoyed coaching his daughter and other young women in Kids Inc. softball.
Jimmy was known for his cheerful kind spirit. The atmosphere at the Lill home was always warm and peaceful, making it a great place for Becky and Doug's friends and family to visit frequently and feel like it was a home away from home. So many people looked up to him almost like a second father.
His greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always fun loving, and he cherished having his family around him, most often playing games and eating. His love for games has passed on through generations.
Jimmy is also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Holman, and three brothers-in-law, Buster Holman, Clem Johnson, and J.C. Brasher.
Survivors include his daughter, Becky Waldrip and son-in-law, Lyndal; son, Doug Lill and son-in-law, Rafael Canizares-Yunez; two grandsons that he adored, Logan Waldrip and Landry Waldrip and wife, Chloe; eight great grandchildren that he treasured, LeAnne, Chassis, Layton, Ellie, Lynnix, Witten, Burke Dean, and Shep; two sisters, Patsy Brasher and Mary Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family that loved him dearly.
