Jeanetta Mcneill

December 31, 1969 — October 2, 2012

Jeanetta farm on the south rim of Palo Duro Canyon, after marrying on March 2, 1948. A feat not attempted by the faint of heart, they purposefully raised six sons, instilling in them Christian values and family traditions, Their six boys continue to exert a positive influence in their own families and in the communities where they live. Jeanetta considered her large, extended family her greatest accomplishment and greatest joy in life. She loved nothing more than having her large family gather every year for the July 4 holiday and the weekend after Thanksgiving, a holiday that came to be known by family members as Thanks-mas. She was a life-long member of the University Church of Christ in Canyon and valued member of the communities of Wayside, Texas and Happy, Texas, where she had a multitude of friends. Born on October 11, 1931 in Clinton, Oklahoma, Tressa Jeanetta Smith grew up in Amarillo, where she met and married R. C. "Sonny" McNeill. She is survived by six sons and their wives: Dave and Trae of Muleshoe, Dudley and Judith of Happy, Jim and Sherry of McKinney, Tim and Debbie of Haslet, Warren and Denise of Lubbock, and Walter and Tina of Happy. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren: Mike McNeill, Mark and Julie McNeill, Stan and Sunny Boaz, Todd and Mary McNeill, Amber and Taylor Weems, Hannah McNeill, Zac Downs, Luke Downs, Sydney Downs, Slade Downs, Angela and Andy Beckwith, Tori and Casey McBroom, Evan McNeill, Kevin and Lisa McNeill, Nathan McNeill, Jarred and Kelsie McNeill, Beau McNeill, Blake McNeill and Kelsea McNeill, and by 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving her are her siblings, Ovella Post, Elmo Smith, Bill Smith, and Sam Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny McNeill, her brother, Hill Smith, Jr. And her daughter-in-law, Hermion McNeill. MEMORIALS: For those wishing to honor her memory, she would want for you to gather up your family, give them a hug and tell them you love them; and instead of sending flowers to her service, she would rather you use those funds to support a cause important to you.
