Jarrett Bray

June 23, 1980 — January 1, 2025

Jarrett Dale Bray, 44, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 after a courageous 13-month battle with cancer. Service will be 10:00 Tuesday, January 14th at Palo Duro Cowboy Church with Pastor Roland Taylor officiating.

Jarrett was born on June 23, 1980 in Amarillo. He attended schools in Canyon ISD and was a 1998 graduate of Randall High School. He later graduated from Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Scottsdale, AZ with an associate's degree in culinary arts. He worked at several restaurants in Amarillo as cook, head chef, general manager, and kitchen manager and was also co-owner of Holey Smokes BBQ in Amarillo. Jarrett's last job was with the WTAMU dining hall. The family would like to send a very special thank you to Chef Mike and his crew for working compassionately with his schedule during his cancer treatments.

Jarrett was a great dad and was very proud of his sons. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching football; however, his love was cooking, grilling, and smoking meats. He developed his passion for cooking from his grandma, pepaw, and his mother. As soon as he was old enough to sit up, his grandma had him sitting on the bar helping cut out sugar cookies. Jarrett was always creating new sauces, rubs, or new menu items. One of his greatest loves was participating in the annual Family Christmas Candy Making where there were no less than 75 to 100 different types of candy made. More recently, Jarrett started canning his BBQ sauces, salsas, jellies, and jams to sell at craft shows.

Jarrett was reunited in heaven with his grandparents, John and Nina Pearl Dawes.
Survivors include his sons, Raiden and Gavin Bray of Amarillo; his mother, Shirley Bray of Amarillo; sister, Windy LeVergne and husband, Lee of Amarillo; uncle and aunt, Henry and Marian Dawes of Pampa; special faithful friends, Joe Sessions of Bushland and Jeremy Hale of Sherman; the mother of his sons, Stacy Gustin; and numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.

A heartfelt thank you also goes out to Bethany & Emily and his speech-language pathologists at BSA Therapy who took great care of him since his laryngectomy in 2017.
