Jane Westberry

December 31, 1969 — June 22, 2005

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Canyon with the Rev. Donna Johnston, associate pastor FUMC, officiating. Mrs. Westberry was born July 19, 1941, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, the first child of Leona Lockhart Headlee and Ralph Headlee. She grew up in Perryton, Texas and graduated from Perryton High School. She Married Gary Alton Taylor in 1959. In 1962 she married Morris Westberry of Hereford. Mrs. Westberry received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M University), where she was elected to Alpha Chi national honor society. Later, she undertook additional study and received mid-management and superintendent certification. She was a member and past president of Zeta Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was an educator for 34 years, having taught at the secondary level in Hereford (1962-1964), Happy (1964-1968) and Canyon (1969-1981). From 1981-1985 she served schools throughout the Panhandle as a curriculum consultant for Region XVI Education Service Center and also presented many seminars and programs for professional educators. From 1985-1990 she was curriculum director and assistant superintendent for Childress ISD and served that district as interim superintendent in 1990. She also taught evening classes for Amarillo College and West Texas State University. She served Waxahachie ISD from 1990-1995 as K-6 curriculum director. She retired in December of 1995 and returned to Canyon. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon and the Canyon Retired Teachers and School Personnel. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Lockhart Headlee, and her father, Ralph Headlee. She is survived by a son, John Phillip Taylor and his wife Cathy of Greeley, Colorado and four grandsons, David Andrew Taylor, Daniel Thomas Taylor, Phillip Michael Taylor and Matthew James Taylor, all of Greeley. Additional survivors are her brother and his wife, Roy and Grace Headlee of Mustang, Oklahoma; and three sisters, Sue Headlee of Borger, Judy Headlee of Perryton and Kay Headlee of Amarillo. She also is survived by two nieces, five nephews, and many grand-nieces and -nephews.
