James Stipe

James Stipe, 77, of Canyon, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Amarillo. Services will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Rev. David Crump, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Stipe was born on October 10, 1925 in Sherman County, Texas to Paul and Marie Burroughs Stipe. He attended Hartley High School and married Mary Sue Rice in Clovis, NM in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He farmed in Stratford for five years then ranched in Shamrock. He moved to Canyon in 1963. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Stipe, in 1963, one sister, Loyce White, in 2001, one brother, Jesse Stipe, in 1998,and one great grandson, Pedro Ladislado Garza, in 2000. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Stipe, of the home, three daughters, Linda Diane Sanders, of Amarillo, Sally Jo DeHay, and husband, Bill, of Amarillo, and Tracy Lynn Criss, of Canyon; two brothers, Max Stipe, of Dalhart, and Clyde Stipe, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; one sister, Joyce Lowe, of Stratford; seven grandchildren, and six great grandchilden. The family requests memorials be to Calvary Baptist Church 800 8th St. Canyon, Texas 79015.
