James Newton

James "Jimmy" W. Newton, of Canyon, has gone home to be with the Lord. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Amarillo with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Jimmy was the son of J.C. and Oneta Fern Newton. He graduated from West Texas State University with a major in Biology and minor in Psychology. He also graduated seminary, ministering as a chaplain at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, pastor of Siesta Bible Mission, assistant pastor of Lamont Drive Baptist Church and assistant pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. Jimmy worked as a field representative with High Plains Religious Bookstore, and in menswear at Woolco. Jimmy was a Mason, Shriner, member of the Knights Templar, the Gideons and Boy Scouts of America. He was a loving husband, father and friend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a church ministry, charity, or organization Jimmy supported.
