Graveside Veteran services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery east of Canyon on Palo Duro Highway followed by a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Canyon. James A. Mooring, 64, is now peacefully flying with our Savior in Heaven. Jim was a devoted husband, father, son, and Navy veteran born on May 24, 1949 in Amarillo to Floyd and Lillie Mooring. After graduating from Amarillo's Caprock High School, he enlisted to serve in the United States Navy on aircraft carriers U.S.S. Lexington and U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he mentored pilots and worked as a freelance corporate pilot for various Texas companies until his retirement in 2012. When Jim was not flying, he spent time with friends and family golfing, fishing, motorcycle riding, traveling, and relaxing at Anna Maria Island, Florida. The family would like to express gratitude to all the staff at the Hospice Care of the Southwest. The loving care they provided for the entire family made it possible to get through the difficult five months of Jim's illness. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mooring; daughter, Jill Rios and husband, Felix; stepdaughter, Heather Calderon and husband, Chico; stepson, Frank Elkins and wife, Kathryn; grandchildren, Skylur, Jami, and Kori; and loving close friends, Lynn and Barbara Hilburn; Macky and Donna Medley; Lewis Morrison; Jan Cobb; Kristine Lewis; and Jon D. McCoy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Dr., Suite 110, Amarillo, TX 79106 or SPCA, 11901 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79119, honoring his precious little boy, Runt, and one special cat, Sinbad.
