James Lanier

December 23, 1937 — April 9, 2015

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Canyon with Rev. Debra Huffman, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Brooks Chapel. Private Interment, Dreamland Cemetery James Robert Lanier was born on December 23, 1937 in Childress to Elbert Lee and Lucy Clark Lanier. He graduated from Kirkland High School in 1955 and received his Bachelor of Education from West Texas State College in 1959. He then received his Master of Education in 1965 from West Texas State University. He married Judy Newman in Roscoe, Texas on December 20, 1961. He retired from education in Kress. James enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events as well as WTAMU sports. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Texas Retired Superintendents Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Phyllis Collyer and Paula Caradine, and two nephews. Survivors include his wife, Judy Lanier, of the home; three children, Doug Lanier and wife, Laurie, of Ingram, Kim Lackey and husband, Jimmy, of Canyon, and Jim Lanier and wife, Nicole, of Universal City, TX; and ten grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the First Christian Church, 2011 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015 or Kids, Incorporated, 2201 E. 27th, Amarillo, Texas 79103.
