James Carol 'Jim' Reeves, 77, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon, Texas with Ralph Mireles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.
Jim was born on September 17, 1946 in Lubbock, Texas to Jerry Clifford and Annabelle Crabtree. His father worked pipeline construction and moved the family all over the southwest United States. Jim attended 44 different schools before graduating from Lubbock Cooper High School in 1965.
Jim received an associate degree from South Plains College in Levelland, TX, a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Education, both from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX, and a Course of Study certificate in Ministry from Perkins Theological Seminar in Dallas, TX. He obtained a teaching certificate in secondary Social Studies Composite, Elementary Education, counseling, and mid-management.
Jim entered into the ministry as a lay speaker for the United Methodist Church in 1984. He quickly felt the call to do more and became a pastor in the early 1990's, pastoring several United Methodist Churches in three different conferences in Texas and one conference in Oklahoma. He also pastored at First Christian Church in Spearman, TX, First Presbyterian in Beaver, OK, and First Baptist Church in Hardesty, OK. He liked to call himself a "prestabapticologist."
In 1970, while attending West Texas State University, Jim met Sandra Kay Greenwood, whom he married in Pampa, TX. Together, they had three daughters.
He was active in the communities he served, as a Rotarian and Lions Club member. He was also very involved in Rushing Wind Emmaus and served as their Community Spiritual Director. He also became active in KAIROS Prison Ministry and worked KAIROS weekends at the Jordan, Roach, and Dalhart Units.
Jim is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Johnny B. and Jane Reeves, maternal grandparents, Charles and Arminta Crabtree, a brother, Terry Reeves, his parents, Jerry and Annabelle Reeves, sister, Donna Reeves Hunt, and son-in-law, Ricky Florez.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Reeves of Hooker, OK; his three daughters, Staci Bennett and husband, Andy of Joshua, TX, Jennifer Florez-Reeves of Abilene, TX, and Patrice Smith and husband, Junior of Canyon, TX; nine grandchildren, Tristan Ellsworth, Shaelyn Ellsworth, Christina Reeves, McKaela Florez, Faith Williams and husband, Chris, Emory Florez, Tyler Bennett, and Hope Blankenship; one great-grandchild, Clay Williams; sister, Barbara Sanford and husband, Neal of Jacksonville, TX; brother-in-law, Mike Hunt of Henderson, TX; and numerous friends and extended family.
There will be a celebration of life in Hooker, OK at a later date.
