James Gwyn

James "Jimmie" Gwyn, 91, of Wildorado, TX passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 23 at Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado with Rev. Ron Muller, Pastor Palo Duro Baptist Church and Rev. Cliff Hargrove, Pastor Western Heritage Cowboy Church officiating. Burial will follow at Palo Duro Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.  Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Jimmie was born December 31, 1926 in Amarillo to Homer and Zella Boydston Gwyn. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1952 to 1954. He married Sarah Joann Hopson on June 8, 1958 at Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado. Jimmie was a lifelong farmer/rancher. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains, snow skiing and trout fishing with his family. He was a member of Palo Duro Baptist Church of Wildorado, serving there as a Deacon. He enjoyed attending any event at the church and took many youth retreat trips with the youth group. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife; grandson, Nathan Corbitt; sister, Lazelle Flowler; and brother, Roy Gwyn. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Graves of Bonham, TX; son, Dennis Gwyn and wife Julie of Canyon; granddaughter, Jessica Caylor and husband Adam of Lexington, TX; grandsons, Wyatt and Cole Gwyn of Canyon, and Payden Graves of Bonham, TX; great-granddaughters, Piper, Adelyn, Rylen and Bailee Caylor; great-grandson, Cash Caylor; sister, Lawana Milhoan of Benson, AZ; brother-in-law, Butch Loveless of Tulia, TX; sisters-in-law, Norma Lowe of Oklahoma City, OK, Susie Varner of Anchorage, AK and Marieta Gwyn of Wildorado, TX; Gretchen, his faithful sidekick and partner-in-crime. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Palo Duro Baptist Church, Building Fund 5704 FM 809, Wildorado, TX 79098 or other charity of your choice.
