Steve Olsen, pastor and Jim Childers officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.
He was 84 years old. Born October 26,1939, Jack was the first child of five born to Joe and Faye Rogers. Jack grew up working on farms and learning to hunt and fish. His family finally settled in Hereford where Jack worked for his father's business, Joe's Auto Clinic. Jack taught himself to repair boat motors, launching his career in boat sales and repair with Jack's Marine Supply.
He met Nelda Rogers in high school at a lake party. She was there with a friend of his, and Jack stole her. They married June 25, 1960, driving to their honeymoon in Jack's parents' new Oldsmobile. Two years later their family began with the birth of Laura, followed by Deborah and then by Heather.
Through most of the girls' childhood, the family worshipped at Frio Baptist Church, south of Hereford. Jack served as Sunday School superintendent, song leader, deacon, teacher, and all-around servant. When he and Nelda decided to move to Canyon, they found their church before finding their house. They began attending First Baptist Church of Canyon where Jack taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as deacon, and has enjoyed the fellowship of his Community Group.
Although quiet by nature, Jack had a dry and incredibly quick wit. He was sometimes soft spoken, so you'd better listen closely. He was deeply knowledgeable about a multitude of subjects, and had an ability to answer questions about history, politics and economics by memory. He could fix anything from a carburetor, to jewelry, to a broken heart. A scholar, a businessman, a hunter, and a cook (among many other talents), Jack served the Lord in everything he did.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda Rogers, his daughters, Laura Rogers, Deborah Weeks, and Heather Tinsman; his grandson, Joshua Rogers; his granddaughter, Tracy Rogers; and his great granddaughter, Everest. He is also survived by his siblings, Joan Allsup, Donna Ivy, Joe D. Rogers, and Rose Purcell, and uncle, Howard Rogers.
