J. Mack White

J. Mack White, 95, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Graveside services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dreamland Cemetery with Zak White officiating.

Mack was born on April 4, 1928 in Happy to Ernest and Merle Virginia (McManigal) White. He graduated from Happy High School and received his Bachelors degree in Industrial Arts from West Texas State Teachers College where he met his love, Shirley Harrison. They were married on November 10, 1950.

Mack was a veteran Army Officer who served in the Korean War. He taught Industrial Arts in Tahoka, Pampa, and completed his teaching in Canyon. After retirement, Mack and Shirley owned and operated Down Home and Stevens Flowers on the Canyon Square. They worked together for many years, and he collected antique and western memorabilia. His spur collection was said to be the biggest collection from Texas to California, even though he never owned a horse. Mack was also a rancher and farmer on the family land in Happy.
Mack is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ernest White, Jr., two sisters, Kay Littlefield and Frances Huber, and his loving wife, Shirley.

One of Mack's favorite pastimes was beating his son in dominoes, winning him the title of Best Domino Player Ever!

Survivors include his son, Jay White and wife, Patti of Lubbock; his daughter, Debbie Stevens and husband, Barry of Canyon; five grandchildren, Zak White and wife, Amber of San Antonio, Ty White of San Antonio, Samantha Wilson and husband, Jerrett of Austin, Nikki Sams and husband, Aaron of Canyon, and Mikal Stevens and wife, Sarah of Scottsdale, AZ; and seven great grandchildren, Couper, Annabelle, Madi, Bear, Ellie, Presley, and Harrison.
