Irma was born on November 20, 1941 in Nashville, Arkansas to James and Leila (Reese) Stone. She graduated from Nashville High School in 1959 and received her Bachelor of Education degree from Henderson State Teachers College (now Henderson State University) in 1962.
Irma met Hank Holt while teaching at Texas High School in Texarkana, TX in 1966, and they were married on June 3, 1966 in Fort Smith, AR. Moving to Fayetteville, AR for Hank to complete graduate school, she taught at Fayetteville Junior High School from 1970 to 1972. They then moved to Marshall, TX and lived until 1976 when they moved to Canyon. Irma taught at Canyon Jr. High School until 1979 and moved to Canyon High School in 1980 to teach Economics, retiring in 2004. She was passionate about teaching and loved her students, many of whom would come to visit her at Skywest Assisted Living. She was a lifetime member of the Texas Education Agency.
Irma was lovingly known for her devout Christian principles, and she lived her faith. She was a dedicated member of the University Church of Christ where she enjoyed teaching children's Bible classes for many years and loved her church family dearly. She was a wonderful homemaker and took her role as a mother seriously, putting raising her sons above anything outside the home. She adored her family and was completely devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren, participating in activities that she didn't necessarily enjoy, such as fishing and camping, but was willing to join in just to be with her family. She was also an avid reader and an amazing cook.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles Jake Stone, and two sisters, Bonnie McNew and Betty Ann Callicott.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Hank Holt of Canyon; two sons, James Holt and wife, Pamela of Southlake, and Andy Holt and wife, Robyn of Canyon; seven grandchildren, Hannah and Conner Payne, Hailey and Ethan Phillips, Hope Holt, Baylor Holt, Campbell Holt, Hudson Holt, and Hadley Holt; brother, Jimmy Stone and wife, Carla of the Abilene area; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
